Community Engagement Initiatives

1. Robi contributes to Government’s Labour Welfare Fund

Robi contributed to the Government’s Labour Welfare Fund (Shramik Kalyan Tahabil) for the profit made by the company in 2018. The contribution was made from Robi’s Workers’ Profit Participation Fund (WPPF).

On behalf of Robi, the company’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Md. Faisal Imtiaz Khan, Vice President, Policy and Stakeholder, Dewan Nazmul handed over the cheque worth BDT 13,398,310 to State Minister for Labour and Employment, Begum Monnujan Sufian, MP.

2. 27th Robi-Drishti debate competition held in Chattogram

The 27th edition of the prestigious debate competition of the country, “Robi- Drishty Debate Championship 2019” concluded successfully in Chattogram. A total of 84 educational institutions that included 32 schools, 24 universities and 16 colleges participated in the competition.

In the school debate competition, Bangladesh Mahila Samity High School became champion; at the University level, the Chattogram University secured the top position, and at the college level, Haji Muhammad Mohosin College became champion.

Organized by Drishti Debate Club, the closing ceremony of Robi-Drishti Debate Championship was held at the Theatre Institute Chattogram. Hon’ble Information Minister, Dr. Hasan Mahmud MP handed over the prizes to the winners as chief guest.

3. Robi pilots customer service from Digital Centres with a2i

With the aim of providing Robi’s customer service from more than 5,295 Digital Centres (DCs) located across the country, the company had piloted a project in 2019 by training 200 entrepreneurs at the port city in association with Aspire to Innovate (a2i) of ICT Division.

The initial scope of the projects involved allowing customers to avail new SIM registration, recharge through Cholbe Robi app platform, avail MNP service, Utility bill payment, purchase bus tickets from BDtickets platform, avail digital services from Robi’s appstore- bdapps, access learning contents from Robi-10 Minute School and avail digital financial services through RobiCash from the DCs. Going forward, other services will be added to make it a full-fledged customer service point for customers across the country.

4. Robi served Iftar for the underprivileged through digital vending machine

Robi undertook a unique initiative in 2019, named- Amar Iftar, which used digital vending machine for the first time in the country to distribute Iftar to the underprivileged children. Robi took up this unique humanitarian project in association with renowned philanthropic organization, Bidyanondo Foundation. The underprivileged children were able to avail Iftar by just scanning their fingerprint attached to the machines. Robi customers were able to donate towards this initiative by recharging certain amounts during the Holy Month of Ramadan that year.

5. bdapps organized first ever summit for young apps developers

The first ever bdapps (www.bdapps.com) developer summit was held in 2019. A total of 500 apps developers who hosted their apps on bdapps had attended the summit. Celebrating the progress made by the platform, the gathered developers were told that bdapps would be connecting 50 thousand apps developers to the platform by 2021. Within five years of its existence, bdapps has emerged as the largest application ecosystem of the country.

6.Robi brings digital donation solution through Noor app

Robi has introduced innovative digital solution to help its customers to pay their zakat and/ or sadaqah money through its digital Islamic lifestyle solution, Noor app. Robi customers can use convenient digital payment gateways like debit/ credit card and mobile financial services to pay the money using the app. The zakat and/ or sadaqah contributions are forwarded to Ahsania Mission Cancer & General Hospital, Bidyanondo Foundation, Child and Old Age Care, Scholars Special School for Special Needs Children and Rahmat-e-Alam Islam Mission and Islam Mission Orphanage.

7. Country’s first ever Datathon makes instant connection with the aspiring youth

Robi took the lead in the data science and analytics domain by organizing the first ever Datathon of the country in 2019. Google was part of the Datathon event as the cloud partner and Axiata Analytics was the technical support partner of the competition. Honorable State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP graced the closing event ceremony as the chief guest.

The Champion team was given two lakhs taka, the first runner up was given 1.5 lakhs taka, the second runner up was given one lakh taka and the Best two Data Scientists and the Best two Data Engineers were given one lakh taka each. In total, 8.5 lakhs taka prize money was distributed among the winners of the competition. The competition helped to bring the country’s enthusiastic and energetic data science and engineering community to the mainstream.
