Robi and Bank Asia partner for micro-merchant initiative

Dhaka, 9 July 2019: With the aim of expanding financial inclusion in the country, Robi and Bank Asia have partnered to take up micro-merchant initiative. Under the initiative, these organizations will begin with a pilot project in Chokoria. Going forward, this initiative will be expanded to the rest of the country.

As part of the pilot project, beneficiaries of the social safety net programme, such as, widows, old aged, handicapped people and so on are going to receive their payment through Bank Asia from selected Robi retail points. 

Following the pilot project, Bank Asia customers will also be able to withdraw money from their Bank Asia accounts from the selected Robi retail points under the micro-merchants scheme of Bank Asia. The pilot project will begin from the middle of July. 

Robi and Bank Asia celebrated their partnership at a city hotel recently. Robi’s Managing Director and CEO, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, and Bank Asia’s President & Managing Director, Md. Arfan Ali celebrated the partnership by cutting a cake.

Robi’s Chief Digital Services Officer, Shihab Ahmad, Executive Vice President, Digital Services, Ahmed Armaan Siddiqui, General Manager, Digital Services, AM Shakhawath Hossain, and General Manager, Digital Services, Omar Faruq Ibne Hasan were present on the occasion.

Bank Asia’s SEVP & Head of Channel Banking, Sarder Akhter Hamed, EVP & Head of Branch, Md. Abdul Latif, SVP & Head of Branch, Md. Azizul Haque Khan, VP & Head of Agent Banking, Md. Ahsan Ul Alam were also present on the occasion.
